Irving, Texas - Nov. 4, 2004 - The Expo Group has been named a Texas Family Business of the YearR by Baylor University's Institute for Family Business. More than 100 businesses across the Lone Star State were nominated for the contest, which honors top firms demonstrating strong business and family/community values. Eleven family businesses from throughout Texas were honored at the 15th annual awards ceremony on the Baylor University campus. The Expo Group won the medium family business (51-200 employees) category. "Family is what we all work for here at The Expo Group. This award recognizes that we have achieved the perfect balance of work and family, so I could not be happier," says The Expo Group President and CEO Ray Pekowski. "Our employees and our clients are extensions of the Pekowski family, and they make this possible with their hard work, dedication and loyalty. Judging criteria included success in a company's individual industry, sound succession planning and charitable works. Judges include family business consultants, advisers and principals of family firms. The Expo Group was founded and is still owned and operated by Ray Pekowski and his wife, Linda. Both of his sons, Randy and Robert Pekowski, work for the company. Baylor Business is a model of management education that is unlocking the 'value of values' in business organizations. The school aspires to better prepare students with a complete education, including theoretical, experiential and values-based learning.
