The Expo Group Reveals                    2003 Show Managers of the Year

Irving, Texas – Oct. 23, 2003The Expo Group announced the winners of the 2003 Show Manager of the Year (SMOTY) Awards, which are presented annually to recognize deserving show managers in five categories.

                          

The Expo Group Show Managers of the Year for 2003 are:

Ø        Tier I – 1 to 150 booths: Kelly Wise, The American Society for Nondestructive Testing, ASNT Fall Conference & Quality Testing Show

Ø        Tier II – 151 to 300 booths: Peter Nathan, PWN Exhibicon International, U.S. Food & Agribusiness Exhibition

Ø        Tier III – 301to 700 booths: Camille Cimino, The Laurel Group, Museum Store Association Conference & Expo

Ø        Tier IV – 701 to 1,500 booths: Mark Dineen, Hannover Fairs, USA, CeBIT America

Ø        Tier V – 1,501+ booths: Tom Cindric, Hanley-Wood Exhibitions, World of Concrete

 

SMOTY award winners will be honored at the gala dinner and ceremony on Dec. 3 at The Stirling Club in Las Vegas. Each winner will receive a crystal obelisk trophy to keep, and The Expo Group makes a $1,000 donation in the winner’s name to the charitable or educational institution of his or her choice.

 

“This is our way of honoring show managers who exhibit characteristics we value at The Expo Group, such as attention to detail, creativity, discipline and innovativeness,” says Ray Pekowski, President and CEO of The Expo Group. “We feel it is important to recognize those true can-do spirits.”

 

The Expo Group received more nominations this year than in the award program’s history. Now in its fourth year, the SMOTYs are open to anyone in the industry responsible for producing a show, regardless of any affiliation with The Expo Group. This year’s nominees were suggested by co-workers, vendors, exhibitors, board members and themselves.

 

Nominations are judged by an independent panel. The 2003 SMOTY judges are Michael Hough, President, MRH Associates; Jacqueline Russo, Chairman, International Association for Exhibition Management; Donna Sanford, Publisher, EXPO Magazine; Adam Schaffer, Publisher, Tradeshow Week; and Donald Svehla, Publisher, Exhibit City News.
